Three resident brothers of the Artists’ Circle have made a mark for the fraternity this semester by winning three prestigious awards
Brod Michael John De Vera ‘03, currently a fourth year Visual Communications student and holder of the Pitoy Moreno Scholarship from 2004-2006, won the National qualifications to represent the Philippines in the ASEAN Young Photographers Summit in Singapore this November. His black and white photographs were selected among hundreds of entries nationwide by a screening team from the Department of Foreign Affairs. Mike De Vera will be in Singapore with 15 other representatives from ASEAN Countries this November. They will exhibit their works and attend forums in connection with the theme “Spirit of ASEAN”.
Brod Gino Bueza ‘05 is the only UP College of Fine Arts student to become a finalist in the Metrobank Young painters annual in the Watermedia on Paper Category. He was awarded in a ceremony held last Friday, September 21.
Brod Clarence Alvear ‘07, who played one of the lead roles in the hit independent movie “Tribu” is set to attend the Pusan Film Festival in Pusan, South Korea and the Berlinale (Berlin Film Festival) on February next year. Brod Clarence was among the leading cast of “Tribu” to receive the “Best Actor” trophy this year at the CineMalaya film festival. He is currently acting in theatre plays and pursuing a degree in Industrial Design. Like his role in the movie Tribu, which mostly starred real-life gangsters, Brod Clarence lives in Tondo, Manila he is however not a member of any of the gangs featured in the movie.
We would also like to thank those who supported the benefit concert for hazing victim, Cris Mendez held last Thursday, September 24, 2007 at the Bahay ng Alumni. All proceeds of the event will go to the college scholarship of Cris Anthony Mendez’s Brother.
