The UP Artists Circle co-presented films by Mike De Leon at the UP Film Institute. Assisting the Citizen Jake Team, along with DAKILA, Active Vista, Cinema Artists Philippines, UGATLahi Artists Collective, Cinema as Art Movement. The event is the final public screening of Citizen Jake. Media personality Lourd De Veyra, actor Teroy Guzman, Prof. Xiao Chua, and Direk Mike De Leon held a panel discussion moderated by Miss Mitch Rama of DAKILA.
“It’s been decades since Direk Mike De Leon agreed to do a Q&A forum. That is why it’s an honor to witness such an event. The panelists, as well as the audience, gave such sharp queries and thoughts about the film and the impressionistic impact it’s had on viewers. We hope each of us learn the lessons of the past and use it to spark change in our time. In the midst of the worsening political climate under the Duterte administration, the aim of these kinds of films is to shake up “fence-sitters”, as what Teroy Guzman talked about during the forum, and pick the side that voices against the continuing atrocities of the power-hungry; poor lies, poor campaigns for plunderers and thieves, twisted facts, and the killings, red-tagging, the extended Martial Law in Mindanao, and this government running itself down and taking us with it, far beneath it if it can.” – UP Cinema as Art Movement
